It is simple to jailbreak iPhone 3G with 3.1.3 firmware. Here what you need to do to get it working:
1. Download the 3.1.2 firmware from here – http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-7265.20091008.Xsd32/iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
2. Download latest version of redsn0w 0.9.4 (google is your friend)
3. Start redsn0w
4. When redsn0w ask you to point to the current firmware file, point to the 3.1.2 version
5. Follow the on-screen instructions from redsn0w
Boom! Your iPhone is jailbroken.
